In this pottery workshop, you'll learn how to make handles by pulling, coiling, slab building, 2 ways of wheel throwing, as well as a stylized version. Additionally, we will cover how to attach handles, clean them up, and tips for drying to ensure proper bonds and no cracks! We will start with demos and instructions, and then give every participant a chance to attempt the styles they're most interested in. You'll also get personalized tips in an encouraging space! As this is an intermediate workshop, please come with ideas and questions from your own practice! :)
Explore, have fun, and push your limits! Ceramics is one of the most meditative mediums, connecting us with ourselves, the earth, and all elements. Go ahead and enjoy a night out full of good vibes, goofiness, and mud! :)
Typically, both firings would be included in the workshop fee, and you get to pick how you want your piece to be glazed (colored) in the end. However, due to the nature of this workshop, the pieces would not be fired unless requested.
All classes and workshops are open to anyone over the age of 10 years old; any person under the age of 13 must be accompanied by an adult at all times.
Note: Shahane will be the instructor! She has taught pottery since 2016, got her BFA in ceramic arts in 2015 with a double minor in art history and psychology, and owns Pudgy's Place with her husband Phillip :)
